The Singapore of today is multi-racial. However, the original inhabitants of our island were the Malays. The presence of Malay royalty and this community wer the focal points in attracting Muslims from the Malay Archipelago and from as far as India and the Middle East. This ethnic group now make up about 15% of modern Singapore’s population, the second largest group after the Chinese.

Balik Kampong: Dulu dan Sekarang, part of our heritage and cultural series, brings you into the Kampong Gelam enclave and back in time, where Malay royalty and a thriving Muslim community once resided from the 19th to the 20th centuries.

​You cannot help but fall in love with this heritage site. Today, it has a bohemian and hipster vibe with quaint boutique shops, hipster café and fancy restaurants. Let us take you beyond the surface to appreciate the historical significance of the area.

We let this story be told through historic and hidden buildings; ancient burial grounds; places of worship, street art and murals. You will gain insights to appreciate the history of the Malay community, their culture and how a Muslim strives to remain true to the teachings of the Islamic faith.

Cycling through 3 historic neighbourhoods, we start the journey from where they first arrived on the shores of Singapore to the very soil that marks the finale of their life journey.

Our Longest River

The Singapore River may be the most famous on this sunny island. But let’s not forget its less famous cousin, the Kallang River. It is our longest river and definitely no less important nor scenic. The Kallang River was part of the industrial heart of Singapore and now, it winds its way into the heartlands of Singapore.

The modern and spectacular skyline of the Marina Bay and Central Business District of Singapore needs no introduction. However, we dive beneath the modern façade to discover the challenges of land scarcity, our dependence on water for survival, our City in a Garden and much more. So come join us on a journey of discovery of the places you've always seen but may not have known much about.

Your adventure takes you on a 17km journey around the Marina Bay area of Singapore. Through 13 curated stops over 3-4 hours, your guides will take you on a journey to see familiar sights in a different light; through a different lens.

And through this adventure, you get a unique experience of exercise, tour and the outdoor classroom. 

Bicycling on the Bay offers two options:


Our Light to Night Tour begins in the evening. See the sights in the day and as you cycle, witness the scene magically transform when the Bay is lit at night.

The Night Experience promises a one-of-a-kind experience as you experience the cool night breeze, the adventure of pedaling in the night and the spectacular night views.

The Macritchie crossover​

  • Cross from Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and into the Central Catchment Nature Reserve.

 

  • Get a bird's eye view of the Bukit Timah Expressway from a different angle.

Walk through the largest green lung in Singapore and get to experience the 0.5% of Dipterocarp, primary lowland forests remaining in Singapore. The Bukit Timah and Central Catchment nature reserves were once a large contiguous forest, but they were separated by the construction of the BKE in 1986. Take the route and bridge the gap between these two great nature reserves. Get a peek of the BKE as you have never seen it before; climb Jelutong tower for a view of the rainforest and the tree top walk to walk amidst the canopy.

Railroad adventure

The great railroad adventure north​

Railroads are a romantic form of transport. They connect people and places. They figure largely in the history and development of the land around them. Now walk on the very same land this once-majestic railroad laid on and see Singapore from a totally different vantage point, from a lush green corridor through the urban landscape we live in.

There is something for everyone. Enjoy the greenery, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife or soak in the history and culture surrounding the railroad through the historic buildings and stations which still stand. Enjoy the greenery and tranquility this green lung provides. Revel in standing over familiar roads on cast iron bridges.

Water is the source of life. Today Singapore has four national taps, one of which is buying water from Malaysia under the Water Agreements of 1927,1961, 1962, and 1990. Currently, only the 1962 and 1990 agreements are in force and the water is flowing across the Causeway through massive pipes.

 

Come walk this historic journey, contemplate the source of our water and our interdependence on our northern neighbours as we trace this lifeline from Causeway to Bukit Timah.

This microadventure will take you back in time, over 700 years, discovering the secrets of the area. Some secrets are hidden from sight, while some lay in plain view.

We turn off the beaten track in an attempt to explore, discover and uncover a glimpse of our almost-forgotten history. Let us embrace the spirit of adventure for we will not know what we will see.

Here's your ticket into our railway past, as we chug along the largely forgotten old Jurong Railway -- which was the lifeline for goods transportation to and from the factories in Jurong.

Established in 1965, the track saw much activity in its 27 years until 1992. As you explore the paths of this oft-overlooked route, you'll be in for a surprise with what you'll find: the original tunnels, old truss bridges, steel girder bridges, and more.

Be prepared to get a little muddy during the rainy season!
